Use Rattan Basket to Plant Flowers
Rattan basket can be colorful and decorative planters for flowers and foliage, but care must be taken to properly prepare the baskets before planting. Humidity is a primary concern; and proper sanitation is an important consideration when using rattan baskets to plant flowers. After a few simple steps it will allow you to use any type of rattan baskets such as decorative pots.
Line 1 the inside of your rattan basket with a plastic gardener liner. You can find these plastic trays that are usually placed below the planters in your garden supply, discount or home improvement store. Alternatively, you can cover the rattan basket with a plastic garbage bag. Cut the bag to cover the bottom inside and around 3 inches to the sides of the rattan basket. Add a layer of small stones inside the rattan basket for added moisture retention. You do not need a lot of rock; simply cover the bottom with a single layer.
Add a layer of moss from the rattan basket. You can find sphagnum moss in rolls or in layers at your local craft store or garden. You can cover the rocks and the plastic liner only, or you can bring the moss to the edge of the rattan basket for added decoration. The moss is a cushion between the rocks and soil of the pot, as well as an additional layer of protection for the rattan basket.
